Dan - Society Founder / Events Coordinator / Team Leader

Tell us a little about yourself, what interests you about the paranormal?

My name is Dan and I have been interested in the paranormal since I was a young boy.
I had my first paranormal experience at the age of 13 when I visited the local beach in Southampton in front of Netley Castle.

I had my fishing catapult which I used to fire stones into the water. I had been warned not to take it out by my mother as it could be dangerous, so I was looking around to ensure that no one was watching. As I fired into the water, I turned behind me to see a nurse watching me from a doorway. The nurse was wearing full uniform which consisted of a headdress which had a red cross on it, and she was carrying a basket.

As I was scared that she would tell my mother, I buried the catapult in the stones and ran off up the beach. It was only when I stopped, I realised that the nurse could not have been real as the castle was now a nursing home.

Upon my return I looked back over to the doorway only to find that the door was not operational and was bricked up and there was no sign of a nurse or anyone in the grounds wearing period uniform.

This was the start of my paranormal world and I have never looked back on my quest to finally explain the unexplainable!

What is your favourite piece of equipment, and how do you like to use it?

EVP Recorder

It’s the simplest way to capture evidence without carrying heavy bulky equipment around with you.
Use to record your full sessions or as a short burst, you can use it to record your nights events. As long as you have set it up correctly with naming the location, the room you are in and the people with you, you are able to capture unexplained voices or noises you may have missed whilst calling out.

Visit our evidence pages to see what we have captured on our previous investigations.

What location gave you the best recorded evidence of paranormal events, and what did you catch?

This is a hard question to answer as I have several favourite locations for different reasons. Locations can be classed as a favourite due to what you have experienced there or just the way it is set up and makes you feel.

We previously conducted an investigation at a private location in Southampton, where we have all experienced evidence that we can not explain. I personally have witnessed full body apparitions at that location on two separate occasions.

The first time we were all in one of the rooms which had a window facing out into the centre of the building. We were all calling out for something to happen and I (along with 3 others?) witnessed a man walk in front of the window. The unique thing about this experience was it was on a private event and everyone in the room was accounted for and the building contained no other people. We all leapt to our feet to follow what we though was a person only to find that when we went to the area no one was there. It remains one of my favourite experiences to this day.

On the second occasion we were conducting the introduction to our live stream and decided to film this outside. My brother Lee was filming and as I started to talk, I looked over his shoulder and saw a man standing against the tree. The strange thing about this was the colour or the apparition. After we explored and could not find this person we went on indoors where a seance was being conducted. I asked the board if this was the same person I had seen outside, and the glass went to yes. I decided to ask if this is really true then what colour did you show your self in, the glass spelt out RED! I was so taken aback as I had not shared this information with anyone who had their finger on the glass, and it was correct.

Thinking about your experiences during an investigation, what location has stuck with you and why?

One experience that will live with me forever is the night we spent at the infamous island of Poveglia in Venice. Ever since we began and from watching the TV investigations, we wanted to visit this island.

Poveglia is world renowned for its dark history and paranormal activity and it did not disappoint from the moment we stepped onto the island. That night we experienced feelings like we had never done before, our equipment would go off and sound when no one was around. We also captured 2 pieces of evidence that are undoubtedly brilliant.

The first was a video caught using an inferred camera, we were on a break and my brother and I were sat in an old window chatting. Mark was filming and panned round to film us when behind us a figure appeared in a heat form, knowing we were the only people on the island and to have a heat form behind us was unexplaincable.

The second was an EVP of a male’s voice in the old main hospital part of the island. We were conducting an EVP session and live streaming and I was calling out to whomever remained there. I asked if there was a way I could help and suddenly Andy, our team leader watching from the UK said we need to go back and listen as we have captured something. Upon review we managed to capture a male’s voice which says in a broken English/foreign accent ‘I want to get out of here’.

From all the places you have investigated, have you witnessed anything which has made you believe there really such a thing as the paranormal, and what was it?

Another great experience happened again at our private location. We set up a seance using the Ouija Board and we quickly came into contact with a male who gave load of information about his personal life and time at the building.

After some time, we asked was he willing to interact with us via another investigation method. At the start of the investigation we had set up the trigger object LED Ball in the entrance and asked for him to set it off on the count of 3. Now the ball had sat quietly in the doorway all of the other sessions but as soon as I counted to 3, the ball flashed. The great thing about this experience is that we not only had interaction on request, we caught it on camera.

What advice would you give to anyone who is interested in investigating the paranormal?

Be patient and open minded.

I honestly think that paranormal experiences can depend on the effort you put in and the team or people around you. If you are with people who are negative and not with you for the right reasons, then this can affect what you get out of the night. Please do not mistaken this as ‘Everyone needs to be a believer’, this is not what I am saying but if you have people around you that are willing to give it their all and are open minded to something happening then this can lead to you having a better night on any investigation.

The second thing I would take into consideration is the people/group you go with. Research the group and understand how their events work before you book. Different groups work in different ways. Some employ mediums and historians to run your evenings, some will run your whole night irrespective of what you would like to try and some give you the option to express your preferences in what type of experiments you would like to try.

Remember this Is your night and you want to try as many different techniques as you can to get activity….Good luck in your search
