About this location
Southern Ghost Society are delighted to announce that we will be visiting the intriguing True Crime Museum in Hastings. This is certainly a unique location as it offers not only a chance to investigate the many exhibits linked to torcher and death, but a venue associated with death, suicide and druid ceremonies.
Situated on the popular seafront of Hastings, the museum can be found in a series of caves accessed via Palace Avenue Arcade formally part of a hotel built around 1885. The Palace Court Hotel was built by Arthur Well and is said to be built on the site of a former brewery which is evident by an old bricked up entrance in one of the caves.
The palace hotel was said to be one of the first building on the South cost to have electricity and would have once powered the central lift system which featured in Byzantium, a 2012 Neil Jordan Vampire movie.
Death is no stranger to the hotel and caves with local newspaper reports from the early 1900 detailing the death of a porter who lost his life when he plunged into the lift shaft. Within the same year it was also reported that a young American women attempted suicide in the now the entrance to the Museum and despite surviving the ordeal, it was reported that she later hung herself.
Sadly the hotel closed in 1917 and it is thought that RAF personal and Canadian soldiers took up residence until the end of World War 1.
In 1926 it became more of a meeting place for bohemians, musicians and artists and one of the infamous occultists became attracted to the location. Dubbed by the papers as a master of darkness and even the wickedest man in the world, Aleister Crowley was thought to have held druid ceremonies in the caves with remaining evidenced of a druid altar, pews or benches can be still seen in a cave.
With all this history, there is no shortage of paranormal reports with visitors reporting activity from glowing lights to full body apparitions.
This is certainly going to be a unique location to investigate
